What should I expect during my first appointment? The first time we meet, we’ll need to have a bit more of a chat about your health and lifestyle. We’ll talk to you about your treatment aims and expectations and agree a plan for that session. We’ll explain what you need to do for your treatment, how to lay and what to wear.
-
How often should I have a treatment? It's really on your budget and how you feel. Many people for general massage come once a month or more frequently if they can. Some people come for treatment when they start to feel symptoms coming back and others have a block of treatments close together before going to more spaced out ones.
-
I have a health condition, can I have a massage?Everyone can have a massage but for some people who have more complex conditions, it might be necessary to make sure you are safe to continue with treatment. We can write to your doctor if you agree to give them a treatment plan and our objectives. They then contact you to approve treatment. In very rare cases we may have to refuse a treatment, this could be because you've arrived poorly with something contagious like a cough, cold or flu or if we think that you need urgent medical attention. Please do get in contact with any questions you may have, don't be put off coming for treatment.
-
How do I know if massage is right for me?Everyone can have a massage, and everyone should have a massage! It helps you to feel more deeply connected with your own body, which in turn can help you to better navigate the feelings and emotions that we hold in our body. Although it's not magically curing anything, this change to your outlook can be hugely transformative.
-
Do I need to undress for massage therapy? For a full-body massage, you’ll typically be asked to undress to your underwear. You will be covered by a sheet and blanket to ensure you stay warm and comfortable, and we will only uncover the area we're working on at any given time to preserve your modesty. However, you're not obligated to undergo a full-body massage. Many clients choose to receive treatments like a head massage, which requires no undressing at all. If you ever feel more comfortable staying fully dressed, that's absolutely fine—we're happy to accommodate your preferences to ensure you feel safe and relaxed throughout your treatment.
-
What should I wear for a massage?Come wearing clothing that it doesn't matter if oil gets on them. For sports massage, it's advisable to bring shorts you can be mobile in. If you're having a full body treatment you would disrobe down to your underwear and get cosy under the covers. It's essential you come with underwear (pants/bra) to wear underneath. If you really don't want to disrobe you can say this and we can amend a treatment to work over clothing using stretches and soft tissue techniques, it would be similar but not the same as massage therapy.
-
How long does each session typically last? The start of every treatment is a consultation to find out if you have any changes to health and agree a treatment plan, in your first treatment this usually takes a little longer. You can choose 30/60/90/120 minutes worth of treatment depending on your needs. Take a look at the bookings page for more details.
-
Are your therapists qualified and insured?Yes, all of our therapists have a minimum of a level three qualification, have a professional membership and a commitment to continued continued professional development. They are individually insured as well as the salon being insured also.
-
Do you have gift vouchers?Yes! You can buy these digitally if you click through to the booking system or if you'd like a physical one, we can write this out for you in salon.
-
Are your treatments covered by insurance? Many insurance policies will provide coverage for massage treatments if the therapist has the appropriate qualifications and memberships. For our therapists, we ensure that all are qualified to a minimum of Level 3 and are members of professional organisations. This allows us to provide you with a receipt for sports or Swedish massage that typically meets the requirements for claiming treatment costs back. We recommend checking with your insurer to confirm the specific requirements for your policy and let us know what to include on your receipt.
-
Can I book a treatment for someone under 18?You can book a treatment on behalf of someone under 18 but they must be accompanied throughout by an appropriate adult, this means they'll need to sit in the treatment room and the consultation.
-
What should I do to prepare for my session? If you have long hair, it's advisable to bring a bobble or scrunchy. Try not to eat a large meal before your treatment. You mustn't have drunk alcohol on the day you have your treatment and we politely request that you have a shower/bath prior to treatment.
-
I have a disability can I book a massage?Although we firmly believe everyone should have access to treatment, we are limited by the accessibility of the treatment room and that we don't have hoists. If you have a physical disability and can still climb one step and are able to undress and get onto the couch yourself, this is fine. If you have a mental disability that means you aren't able to fully understand the treatment then it's better if you bring someone appropriate with you who can help explain or make informed consent for you on your behalf.
